Recovery gives people back to their families, to their communities, to their jobs. The disease of addiction cannot be cured, however, we DO recover!
Friends of Recovery Foundation, Inc.
WELCOME! . We are volunteers with a passion for helping people find the road to recovery through the 12 steps. We know it will work for others because it worked for us and continues to do so as long as we continue to share what we have learned and help others do the same.
Since 1992, our organization has provided a haven for addicts seeking a way to live without the use of drugs. (We believe alcohol is a drug, too, just liquid in form.) Whether the drug is in pill, powder, or liquid form, it causes the same destruction to self and others. We hope you will take a chance and ask us questions, usually, we have answers. If not, we know someone in the community who will be able to help. We keep what we have by giving it away, so, do us a favor and let us help.
Mission - our mission is accomplished by providing a centralized facility available to any 12-step recovery group, no matter their specific affiliation (e.g., AA, NA, CA, Al-Anon, Nar-Anon) which can be used for regularly scheduled weekly meetings, special functions, and events that are recovery related.
Recovery Central - the name of our facility. Located in downtown Little Rock, Arkansas, we are within 30 minutes driving distance from Benton, North Little Rock, Conway, Cabot, Maumelle, and Jacksonville. Pine Bluff is approximately 45 minutes and Hot Springs is about an hour away.
Since 1992 we rented space in three different buildings to address our mission. We purchased a building at 7th and Jones Street in Little Rock, then were offered a nice sum for that building and purchased our current building. We moved into our current Recovery Central on Markham Street on Father's Day 2014.
Recovery Central has space for large 12-step meetings of 100 people easily. There also is one small conference meeting room, as well as a kitchen equipped with a dishwasher. Central Arkansas Area of Narcotics Anonymous rents space in Recovery Central for NA literature storage and sales and a storeroom for Area activities and convention. Both restrooms, one male and one female, are accessible by ADA standards.
Since we opened the doors for the first 12-step meeting in 1992, all efforts to carry out the mission of the organization have been performed by volunteers, including the managing Board of Directors. Most volunteers also have "day" jobs, families, other social commitments and responsibilities. We all know what a precious commodity time is, though, which is why it is truly a testament to the dedication and commitment to our mission that we are still here to open the doors of Recovery Central since 1992!
We are fortunate to have a variety of skilled members who freely give of themselves to ensure Recovery Central operates successfully. To give you an idea of the skills and qualifications our members have contributed over the years
The groups that meet at Recovery Central are not required to pay rent, enabling them to focus on their recovery. However, one of the traditions in all 12-step fellowships include working towards being self-supporting. Therefore, donations based on attendance are made when possible; each group determines what and when they donate..
All other funding for the maintenance and operation of Recovery Central comes from charitable donations and various fundraising activities. FOR membership is available to anyone interested in supporting our mission.
We have two big fundraising events each year. In September, we have RecoveryGives. That's just us and all local. Around Thanksgiving, we join with millions of other nonprofits on a global scale for GivingTuesday. There is a concrete block wall in the large meeting room that members in recovery purchase a block brick for $50.00 designed and painted often with their recovery anniversary date.
